Several Projects that Enhance Our Lands, Waters and Wildlife are Essential

To our friends and supporters, partners, colleagues, volunteers, interns, students and teachers: we care about your health and well-being. It is our collective vision to open the outdoors for all. Though difficult to do so during these times, the team at Nature Collective sends you vibrant thoughts of spring renewal and hope.

We have updates on the projects we are working on that will occur in designated areas. We are in communications with our state, county and regional partners to define what is an essential service. In short, there are certain habitat restoration activities that are considered essential. In the coming days and weeks, you may see a Nature Collective team member in the field: surveying our required Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans at Harbaugh  Seaside Trails. Or caring for the Cardiff Living Shoreline, for example.  

 Below is a list of several essential services that will require a team member to be out in nature ensuring that plants and animals are doing well during this time of physical distancing.  

Public health is paramount. Our team members are wearing facial coverings for your safety to conduct habitat work in these locations. If you see us, wave from a distance! We are respecting physical guidelines that limit exposure to COVID-19.

• We are working with City of Encinitas and City of Oceanside on Supplemental Environmental Projects deemed essential in areas of habitat maintenance and restoration.
• The Wildlife Conservation Board, provided by taxpayer proposition funding, requires that we continue to treat high-priority invasive species throughout North County riparian areas and conduct habitat restoration for greenhouse gas reduction.
• The Cardiff Living Shoreline, managed by City of Encinitas and California Coastal Conservancy, requires monitoring of sensitive and endangered plants and animals along this stretch of coastal dunes at Cardiff State Beach.
• The San Elijo Lagoon Restoration, Reviving Your Wetlands, is deemed essential under CALTRANS + SANDAG. Workers in the estuary will continue planting as this multi-year project soon comes to a close.

Our April events are canceled. We will evaluate the status of May events later this month. County of San Diego Parks + Recreation rangers continue to monitor trails.

 We know how critical social services are in this time of great need. Our partners at Coastal Community Foundation, Leichtag Foundation and Rancho Santa Fe Foundation are partnering together with the North County COVID-19 Response Fund to serve the basic needs of vulnerable populations in North County San Diego.
