New winter colors are blooming from indigenous plants installed during lagoon restoration.

Check out the enhanced Pole Trail, connected to the bridges from the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center. Lupine is in bloom now. These blooms are earlier than usual, as all new habitat restoration sites receive initial irrigation for roots to take hold.

Did you know? About 105,000 indigenous plants were installed as part of the
San Elijo Lagoon Restoration!

As you head to the Rios trail or back to the nature center, look for the endangered Ridgway’s Rails in the tidal channels. And, we are hoping that endangered California Least Terns will also begin nesting in the large sandy area ideal for them.
