California Kingsnake

Lampropeltis getula californiae

California Kingsnakes wear unusual styles in this area: brown with cream-colored stripes, or black with creamy yellow rings. Elsewhere, this snake is patterned with thicker bands of alternating colors. The Kingsnake is not dangerous to people, but it’s a powerful predator that kills by constricting. It can even take on the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, since it’s immune to most kinds of venom.
